Avoid Simple Wishes. Personal Strategy and Desires
When building a personal strategy — or rather, when formulating a dream that will form the basis of it — it is very important to avoid simple, down-to-earth wishes. Especially those of a concrete, material nature, such as an apartment, a car, a summer house and the like.
There is nothing wrong with having material needs, but as a basis for personal strategy, they are not good. Regardless of their value, they are finite, that is, they can be satisfied completely. And once that happens, interest in them is gone immediately and forever.
Even if it’s a villa on the Côte d’Azur, a personal Gulfstream G650 business jet or a tropical island, a well-crafted and executed strategy will sooner or later make that dream come true.
What’s worse, such a dream will come true sooner rather than later, in any case — long before you run out of time given to you by nature. You’ll have to invent a new one. In this case, something less significant will not bring you satisfaction. And more grandiose will require many times more effort and time, while in the best case will give the same feelings.
As a result, you will inevitably face a very unpleasant situation, when there is still a good half of life ahead of you, and there is nothing to wish for — “everything is there, but nothing pleases you”.
This kind of midlife crisis — when all “dreams” have already come true — is much worse than its classic form — the realization that some of them will definitely not come true.
Simple desires give rise to weak dreams.
This does not mean that they should be completely avoided. Lack of proper attention to the material side of life also does not end well. In addition, on the tactical, that is, short- and medium-term level, they work very well.
Do not take them as a basis for personal strategy. This is another similarity of the power of dreams with gravity: it is most visible and obvious only on large scales. So, the larger a section of your life we are considering, the more important it is that your personal strategy be guided by a higher-order dream.
